Complete Steps and programming to make 24X6 LED Display Board

Because of continuous demand of the tutorial to make this project, i thought to make it public. I will be giving you the complete report that will tell you the concepts used in making the LED DISPLAY BOARD and also the list of required materials along with the steps. Also i will give you the coding you need to make this project.

  2. you've done a good job dear. Thanks alot. But could you explain how the PIC, Decade Counter and the Shift registers work together to achieve the display? I mean from the theorotical point of view? Is there any standandard as to the minimum number of LED's Colums or Rows required to represent the height and width of a character?

    1. As you can see in the video that the characters are moving from right to left, this moving effect is produced by the shift register. Now in my case there are 24 columns and one shift register (74HC595 IC) can control 8 columns so i connected 3 shift registers, pin#9 is used do connect the two ICs. Now in case of decade counter there are 10 outputs, outoff which i required only 6, the output of decade counter is not in sequence (like 1,2,3...10) so please see the pin configuration before using it, so finally you can control 10 rows by using single decade counter IC. Transistor is used at the output of the counter in order to amplify the value of current as the current is vary small from the counter. Please let me know if you want to know any thing else.

  3. I am interested in this.. I have no engineering experience, but am willing to learn. (I know how to bake a cake and make perfect rice, basically follow instructions) What are the chances of me getting this done properly with no engineering experience.

    1. yes you can make it with no engineering experience but you must know how to make the circuit. If you dont know how to solder then you can ask someone who can do this for you. The main problem which you could have faced without engineering background is CODING, but i have already provided the codes so no problem with that. Just follow the circuit diagram and make it correctly. Do ask if you face any problem!!

    2. Thanks a lot, I've done web design coding html here and there, but I'm guessing its different.

    3. Yes EJays Days its different but you don't have to worry as you just required to upload the coad given by me to arduino.

  4. Thanks. But i still want to find out what happen for instance when you type character A and you want to display and shift it from one end to onother. I understand that the Decade provides the source for all the Leds cathode that suppose to turn on to display the character A and the shift registers will turn on the required anodes to fom a complete path. my question is that how does the circuit identified characters anddetermine the combination of LEDs required for display? what role does PIC play? Does it mean that the output of decade caunter are always ON because must of the character (e.g Letters) may need all the Rows of the display?

    1. Actually the decade counter and the shift register is being controlled by the micro-controller. You need to define the characters by using the keyword #define in your ARDUINO sketch and then write the instructions in your setup() and loop() functions. To understand it you must have good knowledge of ARDUINO.
